ISKENDERPASA Mosque Restoration
Iskenderpasa Mosque It is situated in Sarıguzel Avenue in Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey. It was built by Iskender Pasha, the vizier of Beyazıt II, one of the sultans of the Fatih the Conqueror period, in 1505 AC/911 of the Hegira calendar.
The restoration of this mosque, which turned into ruins in the course of time, was restored in 1756, 1887, 1940-1945, 1956, 1975, and lastly was generally damaged, especially its dome and minaret, during Marmara and Duzce earthquakes; was carried out in conformity with its origin by Hakyol Foundation in 2006, and opened for praying.
This mosque gained more importance with the appointment of great intellectual, Sultans of the Hearts Mehmet Zahid Kotku Effendi as imam-rhetorician as of 1958. It became a tradition to converse with by reading passages from the book of Muhammed’s deeds called “Ramuz el-hadis” after the mid-afternoon prayer on Sundays, and carrying Mukabele (mutually reading prayers and passages from Quran) before the morning prayer everyday, and reading “Evrad-I Serif” after the prayer.
Iskenderpasa Mosque, having a communion of 150-200 during normal prayers, and 1500-2000 during Friday Prayers, takes place amongst the important mosques of Istanbul
